OZTOK

Mexico City Origins

Oztok pavilion is designed as a portal to sharing the experience of Mexico City: as a merging place of future and heritage. A pavilion of elements and technology, of modern and historical gestures, placed on a public space in Shanghai.

Oztok is inspired by an ancestral legend of Mexico City: Chicomóstok, a mythical cave made from many caves —which is told to have guided some of the first Mesoamerican dwellers, and originated the seven nahua peoples.

In Oztok, these caves are meant to lead the visitor into a multimedia journey about the past, present and future of Mexico City.

Fragment of the Historia Tolteca-Chichimeca, a 16th-century Mesoamerican codex depicting the legendary “place of the seven caves”.
